Belgian acclaimed architect Julien De Smedt founded JDS Architects in 2006 and a couple of years later, in 2013, MWA or Makers with Agendas.
Prior to founding JDS Architects, De Smedt worked with Rem Koolhaas (OMA) in Rotterdam and co-founded and directed with Bjarke Ingels the architecture firm PLOT in Copenhagen. For Muuto, he created Crushed, a geometrical serving bowl, and the Stacked shelving system.
Together with Danish entrepreneur William Ravn, Julien De Smedt founded MWA or Makers With Agendas. They describe their mission as follows:
"We address matters of society to create meaningful products. We call this agenda-driven design. MWA is engaged in thinking, producing and distributing design. We operate across scales and disciplines from our two divisions:
The MWA product division where our designs materialise and the MWA project division where we think, perform and implement our agenda-driven design principles outside the boundaries of our product division."
Belgian product designer Wouter Dons first headed JDS Archtitects' product design department, before becoming the third partner in Making With Agendas. Dons also experiments with illustrations and graphics in his 234lab.
